The resonance and meaning you get from a film, is the real reason why you would like a film so much: it could be from a very astonishingly beautiful scene, a very poetic plot, or a very cheesy character.

I have heard that Your Lie in April is a touching anime about piano. As a wee pianist, I decided to give it a go. I was utterly shocked with my eyes moist after watching it. It’s a very, very beautiful series.

As long as you are a person, there must be a time when you lie, no matter whether it is a lie of good intention, an evil lie, or a lie to cover the other lie. There are many different lies in the world, and there must be a story behind every lie. Your Lie in April, is a story, about a beautiful, but sad lie.

This series is not a simple story, not a simple love story at least. It is a story about growing up. The series uses music as a mean to portray the plot, and the soundtrack of the series is just amazing. Yes, music is for people to hear, and is a way to respond to the hope, fear, or any emotions of people around you.

‘Sadness makes one grows’. Kaori’s death makes Kōsei grows up, and it takes Kōsei out of his shadow. The theme of ‘keep going no matter what comes next’ just comes out of the screen and get injected to my heart. The young Kōsei sets Kaori a goal of her life; and the wee grown-up Kaori rescues Kōsei from his shadow, taking him back to the right track of his life. The two people help each other at different times, with different things, is this not what growth mean? People get together, helping each other to grow: in your life, there must be some people around you, while no one can stay with you eternally. This is the colour of life, making life interesting, making every moment treasurable. At the end of the series, Kaori, who rescues Kōsei from his shadow, has already passed away. Kōsei, however, cannot dwell in the loss anymore, because in his heart, he knows that living and blooming his life in a world without Kaori is the best way to respond to her love and help.

For this story, it is suitable to have a tragic ending. The tragic ending elevates the series to a higher level, giving an after-taste of the story. The plot itself is not that innovative, and it is easy to spot the tragic ending from around half-way through the series. Whether a series/ film with a predictable plot depends on how it is portrayed. For this series, I’d say that it was done perfectly. Songs, sound effects, drawing…. everything is significantly above average, and it succeeds on giving me teary gas and keeps me in the plot a day after watching it.

After reading the last letter of Kaori, Kōsei wipes his tear away, and continues to go back to his life.  ‘Spring will be here soon. Spring, the season I met you, is coming. A spring without you…is coming.’

There is a type of girls who like to touch you when they speak to you.

They are usually nice people, with beauteous smiles like the sunshine, and make you feel comfortable when you spend time with them.

Sometimes when they speak to you, they will touch you (no matter whether they actually mean it), like touching your hand, or pet your shoulder. And when you make jokes, they will show a genuine happy smile.

Sometimes if you are like the most single person in the universe, your talent of ‘Final Fantasy’ might be triggered, and think that they are flirting with you by touching you. And then, the truth is, you just think too much. They never have any intentions. And  you end up entering the ‘army’ of the girl.

It’s Valentine’s Day soon, well, guys, wake up! Don’t live in your final fantasy! It’s just a day when chocolate is on discount!

There are many people out there saying ‘Romance films are boring, non-sense, and only lead to your “Final Fantasy”‘ People who think like this are too naïve, and haven’t lived long enough to see the reality of the world.

You have to have enough experience in the world, e.g. being tricked/ friendzoned  by the girl you like, before you truly admire a ‘romance’ work. A romance work, is a world where a man and woman can love each other freely, neglecting the limitation of the reality: If you two like each other, you can be together; if you fancy a couple of birds, you can work on those simultaneously and see which one work out the best; if you two just have physical needs, you can be friends with benefits. Yes it’s unrealistic, but why do you not think about it this way: Can the reality in which we live in, give us the happiness that we can obtain from those romance story? In the world of romance, it is not like ‘there is no negativity like hates, jealousy and the ugliness of human being’, it is just that every character can express themselves honestly, expressing the full love or hate, unlike in the real world, everyone lives within his hoods, hiding his real thoughts, escaping from the social network.

Fantasy exists in everyone’s heart, romance work is not place for you to escape from the real world, but a place to let you feel the happiness that the real world cannot give you. So, romance will teach you something wrong about the real world? Then, detective stories will teach you to commit crime, right? ‘Hunger Games’ teaches you to be selfish? If you don’t have self-control, you will probably learn to abuse animals after watching Pokémon. Listening to people who are against the genre of Romance, I have absolutely No Comment.

Don’t Look Back in Anger

‘I don’t get many things right the first time,
in fact, I am told that a lot’ (From Ben Folds’ “The Luckiest”)

I hate saying that but that’s me, I don’t really get many things right the first time. Handling things for the first time, always gives you a sense of insecurity, as you are not sure if you are doing the right thing or not. People say getting into a relationship is hard, but well, I guess maintaining it is harder, especially for first-timers. All you could do is to be extra-careful, being everything that people hope for on their real date, being charming and suave. I bet constant panic is probably a common thing that everyone goes through in their first relationship, having fear about whether you are doing things right, whether your ‘other half’ thinks the same as you, or whether you two share the same feelings towards each other. Most people would probably look back at the wonderful times they had with the other, and deliberately look for the signs of trouble. Well, having those fear means you are sort of prepared for things. However, worrying about the future is as effective as trying to solve an equation by chewing bubble gums. The real troubles are things that never crossed your worried mind.

Love, is a terrible business practised by fools, trampling your heart and leaving you bleeding on the floor. However, it gives you a couple of incredible, and unshakable memories. Love, is not something stupid. It is about spending extra efforts, running 500 miles, even if it hurts, it is about doing something you thought you could never achieve because of your love, it is about leaving nothing in your heart unsaid. If you have already done those, even if love ends (like how majority of relationships end), you do not have to look back in anger. Well, I guess, if you leave nothing unsaid, then the likelihood is that, the relationship could last long, or would end without any party regretting.

Well, maybe nothing is supposed to last forever. Especially something very beautiful, like firework, and sunrise. The idea of it might be: if things last forever, you might never discover its beauty. No one can be with the other forever and ever, we are only ships that pass the Sheep Meadow, and we go our separate ways. Consistency is nice in a relationship is nice, but no one can give you that. You can never guarantee one day, when she wakes up, she is not gonna think differently about you. Therefore there is no point labelling sometimes. No matter how much time you spend with her (neglecting the fact that it’s sometimes harder to schedule a date than arranging a arab-isreali peace talk), you can never guarantee what the other thinks, and actually there is no point.

I guess, the formula to happiness is to live everyday as if you have desperately come back to this day to enjoy, without any worries, stress, and tensions that would stop you from noticing how sweet the world can be. As mentioned in the film ‘About Time’, we all travel through time, every day of our life, all we could is to do our best to relish, this remarkable. Therefore, there is no point looking back in anger. We look back in sadness, only because we remember only on the good memories, and ignore the bad ones. Now, try to think about something that makes you sad, do you see it slightly differently? But well, sometimes forgetting is the way to do it.

‘How Happy is a blameless vestal’s lot
The world forgetting by the world forgot
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Every prayer accepted, every wish resigned’

Consistent Relationship

Relationship builds on trust. Without trust, a relationship can probably never grow well. It’s like growing a plant, you have to sometimes water it and take care of it, but sometimes you should leave some space for it to grow.

Relationship is an interesting, yet a wee little bit tricky when it comes to how you handle it. Couples in love of course want to see each other as many as possible (theoretically), despite the fact that individually, they still need their own space. However, seeing each other too much is probably also a risk. How? It MIGHT increase the chance of couples getting tired of each other before anything better can happen. So, what’s right to do? I guess, just set a time or two every week for meeting, just the couples themselves, to maintain the consistency of the relationship. The other time depends on context, depends on what the other one wants to do. It’s unfair to take up people’s time which is supposed to be spent as their own wish.

So, couples not spending every second together makes perfect sense honestly. This is where the tricky part is, TRUST. Andreas Capellanus (12th Century) wrote that ‘the lover is always fear that his love may not gain its desire. He fears anything that might harm it anyway.’ You have to trust that she is not doing anything to harm the relationship  that would completely ruin your mind if it happens. She’s not a property, but a partner rather. So it is the most terrible act if you control her everyday life. Imagine if you are treated that way, you wouldn’t be happy. This is how a relationship can be fun, with TRUST playing a part in it. It would be a great pleasure if you know you are trusting what is worth trusting.

Well, maybe enough for now. Why haven’t I updated for a while? I don’t know 😀 All I’m gonna say is, building a relationship is like building a bridge between two islands. Now the project begins, and you have to communicate with each other, to make the project works, to connect you two, just like the title of the song ‘vi to er smeltet sammen’ (Okay, maybe a bit cheesy but it means ‘the two of us melt into one’) Ahhh talking about this, the film ‘500 Days of Summer’ comes to mind. Good luck to all of us!

Being taken over by The Fear

Lily Allen’s The Fear can probably be crowned The National Anthem of the 21st Century.

‘I want to be rich and I want lots of money
I don’t care about clever I don’t care about funny
I want loads of clothes and fuckloads of diamonds
I heard people die while they are trying to find them’

These opening lines cannot be more real. People nowadays don’t give a crap about anything other than money. It’s easy to say we shouldn’t be too materialistic, but it’s hard to put this principle into life. At the end of the day, money means power, and it gives you a very comfortable life. It’s difficult, if not impossible, not to be engulfed by the greed inside us. Again, at the end of the day, ‘I’m not a saint but I’m not a sinner’.

‘And I’ll take my clothes off and it will be shameless
‘Cause everyone knows that’s how you get famous.’

This is exactly the view of the majority people I believe. We don’t seem to care how we get money, we don’t care about whether it’s ethic to do something in exchange of fame, glory, and eventually money. Is it the correct mindset? I don’t know. Living in a corrupted world, I don’t know what is real, and what I meant to feel anymore.

And here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=25QrnxD-NB4 you get to hear the great national anthem of the 21 century.

I do admire Lily Allen’s ability to write lyrics in a very very poetic form (at least to me it is so poetic). But the most important thing, is I think she does write people’s heart. I personally think, she did write a lot that reflects my life. The Fear is one of them, The Littlest Things… ehm… I may probably have encountered something similar.

Well, listening to Lily Allen’s at least gives me some comfort, so I know there are people outside who could still see the truth.

‘Sometimes I find myself sittin’ back and reminiscing,
especially when I have to watch other people kissin
Sometimes I wish we could just pretend
Even if only for one weekend
So come on, Tell me
Is this the end?
I was so lost back then
But with a little help from my friends
I found the light in the tunnel at the end’

I rarely watched old films since I came to university. A few days ago, I heard the song ‘Up Where We Belong’ on Youtube as it came up as a recommended video. Then, I decided to watch ‘An Officer and A Gentleman’ as it was recommended by my mum for ages. Indeed, I think it’s a very good film.

First, in terms of actor/ actress, it was already amazing. Richard Gere, is like George Clooney, as he is what many guys would want to be when they get older. Although his acting is not that great (I would describe his acting as a piece of wood0, he looks great enough for the film. Debra Winger, as the main actress, is what I would describe as proper fit (Of course back at that time). She looked pretty and sweet. She definitely attracted me to the film even more!

Soundtrack-wise, ‘Up where we belong’ (or ‘Love Lifts us Up Where We Belong’) fits  into the theme of the film so well. Why? Because it’s about how the love relation of Richard Gere and Debre Winger kept Richard going with the U.S. Navy training camp. Well, sometimes when you do things for someone rather than yourself, you might do it better as you don’t wanna disappoint the other party.

I kinda like this film. I found it both realistic, and idealistic. It tells the truth that, some women at that time only wanted to marry navy pilot for the sake of the title. They would even set a trap (get themselves pregnant with the pilot) so the pilot have to marry them. It might happen in this modern world somehow, as in women seducing rich people for the sake of the wealth. They might set the same ‘trap’ too. Why is it idealistic? Debra Winger in the film is the idealistic character. From the first half of the film, we can see she loves Richard Gere so much, that it is nothing much related whether he is a navy pilot. She supports him through the tough time, and finally till Richard succeeds. Is this unrealistic? I don’t know, finding a girl who would support you through the tough time like she did, seems to be difficult in nowadays world, as there are too many choices for them that they don’t really have to stick to you. Well, this film got me, made me wanna go back and live in an earlier time. Well, if I were born earlier, it would mean, easier immigration, more romantic, and probably better, and simpler life, where freedom and warmth are everywhere.

‘Love Lifts Us Up Where We Belong’, yea, that’s how people get good.

‘The Littlest Things’

Probably Spring is the season of many friendzones happening, as I saw from the examples from my friends. Lily Allen’s ‘The Littlest Things’ popped up to my mind after being involved in the SAD STORIES. Yea, this is a break-up song, but can also be seen as a friendzone song.

‘The littlest things that take me there
I know it sounds lame but its so true
I know its not right, but it seems unfair
The things are reminding me of you’

The Littlest things? Aye, they could be little, but somehow powerful, that can drive you crazy, and it is unfair, that those memories remind me of the special ‘you’.

‘Sometimes I wish we could just pretend
Even if only for one weekend
So come on, Tell me
Is this the end?’

This is a very realistic bit, as you can call it the END, when you think ‘Oh I wish we could just pretend’, because you know it will never ever happen.

This is a song, that reminds us to be realists. There are two types of people in the world, romantic cheeseballs, and realists. Well, it is so idealistic to think that a relationship will last forever. It is not the case: this song reminds us that, no matter how close you can be with your one, there is still a chance for one person to change her (or his) mind, and dump you into the sea. No matter how flirtatious she was, no matter what she says, most ‘promises’ are never kept. Even if a couple really stays till they are so old, there must be one that ‘goes’ first, and the other will can only be ‘sitting back and reminiscing’. How dreadful is that? We come to the world alone, and probably leave it the same way. Keep this idea in mind, and in this way, you’ll feel less pain, when you get noticed that ‘your one’ (as you call) finds her one (who is not you) and keeps mentioning about ‘her one’ in front of you with the most cheerful face.

LOL NEVER MENTION ABOUT YOUR DATE IN FRONT OF THE PEOPLE WHO YOU THINK MAY LIKE YOU, AS THEY WILL FEEL THE INSANITY OF SADNESS!

Poetry: Friendzone

Well haven’t written a poem for a while. Wrote it after seeing a film quite related to friendzone, hope you all like it.

Friendzone, a doomed Bell Jar

Bittersweet memories,
I always offered, when you needed me.
Yes, you trusted me, you needed me, just not in that way.
As I am stuck in the ultimate friendzone, where you can tell me about your date.

Here is my honest narration,
Friendzone is nothing much but a gruelling affliction.
Offering you everything you need,
Although knowing it is a never-ending land it leads.

What do I mean to you?
Why do you never give me a chance too?
You once described I was a nice guy,
Oh well, you can always try before you ‘buy’!

I dreamed that we could have our own sweet nest,
Yet you left me awake with a sweet unrest.
How nice is it, if my dreams turn real?
Then my fragile broken pieces will ever be healed!

Forlorn! Forlorn!
For thou aren’t fond.
Thou shalt not be responsible for my scar,
As you merely put me in a doomed Bell Jar.

Having the ‘Friendzone Military rank’ in mind (which I will repost at the end of this entry), we know a friendzone occupation is like a real job, you can either get promoted or relegated. As in the real military rank, your ‘Goddess’ does not get many ‘General’s (Boyfriend), while she can probably be surrounded by a bunch of soldiers (most likely infantry and Arrow Army).

In order to get promotion, you can choose to do it actively by confessing yourself in different ways. This takes an awful lot of courage to do, but is very unlikely to succeed. Why? Because if you are the one she likes, you would have been automatically promoted before you even have to make a move. The other are unlikely to get even a date to try. But if you don’t confess, this will like a never-ending situation: you see your Goddess making out of other people, and you get jealous….. never ever ending. And… ‘Jealousy, turning Saints into the Sea’ as the Killers sang in Mr. Brightside.

Therefore, you somehow need to apply for the occupation of a General, although it is more than likely to end in a rejection. What happens next in the event of a rejection? Back off! If you don’t want yourself to get stuck in the never-ever-ending friendzone and keep getting jealous from time to time, back off! Why? For certain, she will get a general one day, and you don’t really want to see this, unless you can wholly give it up. And you know, one day, the General will evolve into the King (the husband), and your Goddess will be the Queen (the wife), and they will have a happy life somewhere with some princes and princesses. They will really ‘Rule the World’, oh, no, not the world, but your world. Well isn’t that what you ‘want’ though? Getting her happy by serving her whenever she needs?

Whether you should jump off the boat and quit the friendzone, and end the friendship (not really preferable though), depends on the situation. Well, it can be a hard decision to decide. A friendship can be a base of a relationship and it gives you hope sometimes. If you don’t resign from your post though, jealousy will likely to come to the way at certain point of your life.

Well it is nothing wrong to hand in your ‘application form’ to be a General, as after that, you can know what to do next depending on the situation. But just like applying for university, always know when to apply, what is the entry requirement, and prepare for the ‘interview’ (if you are lucky enough to get a date). Don’t be shy, go and try. Good luck to everyone willing to be the General of the Apple of your eyes!

Friendzone Rank:

1: Infantry–> only serves the ‘Goddess’, but cannot do anything to her.
2: Navy –> richer than ‘Infantry’, using money and gifts to maintain relationship with the ‘Goddess’.

3: Horse soldier –> Can have the qualities of ‘infantry’ or ‘navy’, or both, but gets to be the ‘friend with benefits’ with the ‘Goddess’. Is also the highest rank of soldiers.
4: Arrow army –> Long distance relationship with the ‘Goddess’, using text/ Skype/ Facebook to contact, possibly haven’t even seen the ‘Goddess’ in real life.
5: Wizards (Evil): Getting alcohol or drugs to get benefits from the ‘Goddess’

The Royal Family:
1. King –> Husband of your ‘Goddess’
2. Queen –> Your ‘Goddess’ after Marriage
3. General –> Boyfriend of your Goddess
4. Prince/ Princess –> Children of your Goddess
